Chapter 565

Punta Gorda, FL

Events

This page contains a general description of regular events held by Chapter 565.  For event dates, please see the Calendar section.  All meetings and social events take place in the Chapter building, located at the south side of the Punta Gorda Airport.

NEW:  Larry McClure is our chapter's Events Coordinator.  Please contact Larry if you have any questions about events or would like to volunteer.

Meetings:

General membership meetings are held on the first Monday of every month except July and September. Meetings start promptly at 7:00 p.m.  All members are invited to attend. Anyone interested in joining our Chapter is invited to attend as our guest.

Board of Director (BoD) meetings are held prior to each general meeting. Chapter 565 members are always welcome to attend as observers.

Flying events:

Several of our members fly to local destinations for breakfast on Wednesdays, and sometimes on Thursdays. If you are interested in participating, please speak to any member of the Board of Directors. Additional flying events will be announced at General Meetings as well as on the website. Our chapter also maintains a list of Places to Fly

Social events:

Pancake breakfasts are held on the 2nd Saturday of every month, starting at 8:30 a.m. until about 10.  All members, along with their spouses and guests, are welcome to attend.  EAA members visiting from out of town are also welcome to join us.  If you are interested in checking out our chapter, or finding out more about EAA, this is a great time to come out and meet some people.

Pot Luck dinners are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, starting at 5 p.m.  Chapter members and their spouses are invited to join us.  Happy hour is 5-6 p.m. (BYOB) and dinner starts at 6 p.m.  Since numbers are limited, we ask that you contact Doug (941-505-1903) a few days in advance. He will also let you know what to bring (appetizer, side dish or dessert).

The Chapter's Christmas Dinner is held in December each year. Details will be announced in the fall.

Other events:

My name is Arnold Holmes and I am a Designated Airworthiness Representative located in Leesburg FL.  I kindly ask that you share my information with your membership.  I conduct airworthiness certifications for the following types of aircraft:

  1. Experimental Amateur Built, E-AB(code 46)
  2. Experimental Light Sport, E-LSA (code 47)
  3. Special Light Sport, S-LSA (code 48)

I have been an EAA member since the mid 80's, have built more than 10 aircraft and also work as an IA operating my own maintenance facility located at the Leesburg Int'l Airport (KLEE).  I bring many years of experience to my job as a DAR and consider myself  a hardcore homebuilder.  Please let your members know that I am available on short notice and am always willing to help with any questions they may have concerning the certification of their homebuilt aircraft.

Rates:

Airworthiness Cert on E-AB, E-LSA is $650.00 plus .50 per mile travel.  Jobs that require entire day will be billed at $750.00 per day plus all expenses.

Production Flight cert and Airworthiness on S-LSA is $500.00 per cert plus .50 per mile.

You will not find another DAR that is as accessible as I am.  I answer the phone when you call, I return emails quickly and am easy to work with. Mr. Holmes can be reached at his email address at arnold@dar-certification.com. Phone number is 352-617-2029.

Thank you
